Union Names?

by

Any ideas? One person has already suggested the Badger Pit.

Frankly, I don’t know if it’s cool to name the Union after a sitting chancellor, but you all know that the name “Biddy” is definitely prone to be an affectionate term for a campus building.

“Think I’m gonna go grab a beer and a burger at the Biddy.”

Tell me you can’t see it.

  1. Eric Schmidt Says:

The building should be named after either 1) a Wisconsin politician with deep ties to green politics, since the building will be LEAD-certified and is an important step forward for sustainability on campus, or — my personal preference — 2) an individual within the Wisconsin Union Directorate over the past two decades who has shown extraordinary leadership, vision or commitment to social education. (And of course I don’t mean myself here — there are dozens of people from the ’90s and early ’00s who would qualify, most especially the late Peter Antaramian.)

Ego-stroking is for buildings with major donors. The union should have some name reflecting the student body as a whole.

How about the Eric Schmidt Center for People who Want to Read and Do Good?

I’d also take Schmidtty’s Playhouse (inspired by Frank).

(taking yourself out of the debate is no fun)

My personal preference would be the Joan Cusack Student Union, in honor of our University’s greatest living alumnus.

There’s a guy in one of my classes who looks exactly like John Cusack. He has the same mannerisms too. It’s uncanny.
