Brunch Links

Good morning Sconz nation. Youd think the forecast today is about as shitty as they come: cloudy with a high of 54 and a low of 40. However, the lows for the rest of the week indicate that this is obviously the best we could ask for. Anybody who’s looking for a team to root for in the playoffs – I would highly suggest the Phillies. Here’s a new one from Eating in Madison A to Z, courtesy of Panchero’s. Something about a free burrito day?

Big news today: Madison cop shoots and kills suspect after physical struggle with the man. It was good to note that it’s the first time in more than two years that an MPD officer has used lethal force.

My article on the student ALRC member.

City budget will keep downtown safety initiative fully funded. Businesses will have to contribute 20 to 100k – it’s called “protection money,” guys.

Bobby Tanzilo: I heard that the state now has a law that allows football teams heading toward Lambeau Field — actually more the opposing teams than Packers themselves — to run red lights. After all, what could be a bigger emergency than getting to the locker room four hours early?

UW will not be fined – but they did illegally kill sheep.

Child welfare bill moving through legislature to require higher standards of reporting from care-takers.

Some conservatives say Lee Holloway should apologize for comparing Scott Walker to KKK leader David Duke.  Holloway should up the ante and demand they apologize to the voters of Louisiana, who gave Duke almost 40 percent of the vote in the 1990 gubernatorial election. Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican, right?

Also, apparently Walker has had a relationship with Duke, although not exactly in a way that helps Holloway’s case.

Mike Hahn: “The senate bill raises the liquor tax by more than 50% in order to pay for the increased incarcerations. Sounds reasonable, but here’s the thing: it’s not going to be earmarked for drunk driving jail terms. This is nothing more than an excuse to raise another tax to plug holes in the state budget.”

Democrats are already surrendering on the payday loan legislation.

Scott Walker’s twitter suspended for spamming!

Senate bill to restrict minors from drinking in bars passes committee. I believe it raises the age to 18, however, Judy Robson’s press release does not say.

The Chief outlines “America’s most awesome mayoral candidates” but fails to include Madison native Will Sandstrom (youtube video). But NYC candidate Jimmy McMillan does display a passion that perhaps not even the most deranged Madisonian could best: “I had a hell of a day, man. I would love to put on my website that the Board of Elections can suck my dick, I would love to do that, but I got little children going to my website, I can’t do it, the motherfuckers.”
